I have not been running this week because I seem to have strained my right calf severely. It doesn't hurt much to walk on it, but when I put the full impact of running on it, it was really terrible.
On Friday, I went to Ponce Inlet, for a little day trip. It's about 1.5 hours from home. I must have misread the information on the Internet because I had this crazy notion that it was a dogs allowed beach. Well, I was unfortunately wrong about that. but we still had a nice trip and I have photos to share.
Before I was struck by this hideous illness I took the dog to a local park, in search, I admit of Alligators. Unfortunately, I went in the early morning and apparently Alligators, being creatures of the heat, were not readily apparent. But it was a nice trip, yielding some photos...
Not that much.
Running is improving slowly. I tend to try to downplay anything except big improvement, but I am seeing a slight difference. I'm managing hills better, and distance. I need to work on some speed, and also controlling speed again, as I seem to be just all over the place when I actually look at my pace. I'm enjoying it a little more as well.
Work is interesting. I've been asked to extend my contract and I have agreed to do so. I had been asked a few weeks ago, but then didn't hear anything more about it. Then yesterday I literally lost my temper with a Physician who was being un-cooperative. One of the biggest parts of my job is to advocate for the patients. In this case I was helping another nurse's patient (Other nurse was getting a new patient settled). And all the doctor could do was harass me about this and that and the other thing. I do not know why, but he really pushed my buttons. Luckily the Charge Nurse was there, and seperated us. Later the Charge said he didn't believe I could get that angry. He said I actually scared him a little. But, in the end, the Doc was spoken to, and straightened out. And it was acknowledged that while I can be apparently nasty, at least its over as soon as its over. I don't stew over workplace stuff. Its just stress.
Oddly, after the big blow up the Manager came by to tell me she still wanted me to extend. Essentially she let it slip that she needed one traveler and she preferred me to the other one thats there. I confessed to losing my temper with the Doc and she responded "Good for you...he probably deserved it" So, i guess for the moment I am Golden.
Teulu does not love the heat. He has somehow developed a nice hot spot on his hip. :( I'm going today to get him a new Elizabethan Collar to help it heal. And some oatmeal soothing bath, which I hope will make him feel better. He is still cheerful and tail wagging, but...I hate the hot spot. I always feel as if I am not entertaining him enough.
My New Camera has Shipped!!!!! I am very very excited. When it arrives, I will be posting tons of Florida Photos.
I decided to run the New Mexico Half. Even though its at altitude. I miss my friend, and maybe I'll get a chance to say Hi to her too. The course is pretty flat, so I wonder what that means with all the hills I am ploughing through here in Clermont.
Apparently, I am not eating normally, though I could have sworn I eat like most other people. I'm a little freaked out about this...which is a good indication of a problem. Will see this Nutritionist on Friday and see what she has to say. Food is fuel, but...sometimes its a bit hard to get enough fuel...and other times I have more fuel than I need...I hope this gets sorted out, but I am sort of afraid that I'm going to have to "be different" and I am not sure I'm ready for that.
And today was apparently Teulu's.
Teulu was behaving a bit restless last night, not ill behaved, but just a little restless. I was not in a particularly good mood, and so that may actually be why he was the way he was.
So today I decided to entertian him as much as I could.
He started the day with a 45 minute walk about the neighbourhood. After that, we picked up some loose branches and piled them up as it is brush pick up next week. He really enjoyed this as we got to pull up lots of braches and that meant uprooting wet leaves, lots of sniffing.
then he seemed sleepy, so I took some time at the local coffee shop, paid some taxes, found my missing W-2's (What a hassle), returned some emails, and changed my address properly (to the PO box), got the oil changed and the plugs etc changed.
I came home, Teulu was sleeping on the bed. I took him out again for another walk. The sun had finally come out so we enjoyed that walk. We walked for about 30 minutes, I met one of the new neighbours, very friendly man with rabbits and a very nasty dog named Cinnamon....People should really think before they name their dogs. This poor guy spends a good deal of his time walking his dog saying loudly, "Cinnimon, Cinnamon, now Cinnamon..."
After that walk, I finished my lunch, did a few more administrative things.
Teulu found a cow hoof in the corner that he had left here. He was very excited, and happy to have this treat to chew and essentially carry about...
I decided he was happy enough and went running. He did stare out the window at me, but neglected to bark.
After my run and shower, it was time to walk the dog AGAIN. On our walk we ran into Sundancer and his Mommy. Teulu was his usual horrible self. Sundancer's Mom was kind enough to let them play in the back yard. He ran around and ran and ran. Sundancers Mom and I talked about Santa Fe, the neighbourhood, and the winter weather. I'm so embarassed, I can not recall her or her husbnads name, only the name of the dog!!!!!
At some point, I mentioned casually how I was going to get Teulu a soccer ball, hopefully that he couldn't destroy. Turns out that Sundancer had a Indestructible ball, that he hates. Sundancers Mommy got out the ball and Teulu went absoloutely crazy! He was in heaven. He ignored Sundancer (who is a bit older and not as interested in playing), and Sundancer's Mom, and me, and played with that ball for almost 45 minutes. Sundancer's Mom put the ball in a bag and we took it home. I haven't gotten it out again, as it's pretty hard.
After this Teulu got to participate in more stick collections...
And he still has some energy. He has finally settled, as the sun is going down.
Whew. I am tired. I suppose every dog has his day. I'm not sure I can keep up with Teulu!!!!
Unfortunately for him tomorro is the day I make a large attempt to mastermind my taxes. Lets see how that goes. I imagine we shall be doing a little less walking. he might even have to run about in the back yard.....alone!
I guess I should pay better attention to the weather reports. Last night I noted the registration clerk was asking everyone about the Weather outside, which should have been another clue, but no...Not until it started to snow like crazy did I realize we were in for some weather!!!
It snowed about 3-4 inches today in a matter of hours. Unfortunately those hours were during my drive back to the house. I first missed my turn off, and then witnessed several accidents, luckily nothing serious, just a bunch of bent fenders. It was amazing how quickly things changed! Below are the frozen Cacti that have seen better days.
At ny rate, I did make it home safely with some minor slippage. The wet snow was really the stuff trie chains are made for. I, however, have no chains.
Immediately upon arriing home, I was greeted by an enthusiastic canine. We went for a walk which included lots of running on his part, and digging through the snow for his beloved rocks.
I must say despite the big chunks of snow pack that I had to get out from beween his toes afterwards, he really seems to love snow, no matter how much I don't!!!
I was very thrilled to learn that his "Come" really is a come. As he was cavorting at high speed down the road, I heard the groaning of a big pick up truck. Since he spends very little time off leash near roads,I decided to at least try to call him to me, so One little "Come" and he zipped right over. Admittedly he the jumped on me....but he was where I asked him to be...
Everything was just covered...I like the way snow can make things seem fresh!
But all that said, I am really really ready for some warm weather. I heard from 2 people today that it was in the high 70's in Florida. So, lets all hope my fingerprint card arrives soon and then my license....
:)
with all the trouble I had with my old computer, i never got around to posting my Photos of Mt Ascutney Vermont.
sooooo. Here we are at Mt Ascutney in August.
We started out on the Futures Trail and essentially hiked up and up and up.....as is the common feature I realise of most New England trails.
We started at 7am, and you can see the doggie was full of Pep!
I did a little running on the trail primarily because he was raring to go. I wanted to let him off leash but I was unfamiliar with the trail and unsure if there would be other people on it, so he stayed on the leash...
Much to his dismay.
On the way up, we enjoyed seeing all sorts of natural things including this woodpeckered log...
and this Indian pipe, which I put in admitting that it isn't the hottest photo ever...
We eventually got to the top, breathless and dripping, as it was a looong hike uphill!
I took a lot fewer photos because it was a very strenuous hike....I later found out there is an asphalt road to the top, and then you only have to hike say 1 mile or so, but that was later and my car was at the bottom!
Well Teulu in the past few days has gotten to be suddenly a very obnoxious, clingy, pushy and barky boy. At first I attributed it to the bizarre shift in weather, from 98-100 degrees to about 60 overnight that had him feeling frisky, so I upped his exercise. Despite this he has started to pull his most annoying behavior out of the bag...that of playing "Tug o War" with the leash. I hate this because he jumps, and grabs at the leash with his teeth. When doing this he tends to get very wound up and its hard to get him to relax and just go with the walking flow. Plus, I hate to admit it, but if I am holding the leash in my fractured hand, well my hand sometimes gets to hurting during these episodes.
On top of that he has taken to standing in front of me when I am sitting on the couch reading and barking again and again and again. Initially I would take him out, but then it became obvious he didn't need to go out and he was just yanking my chain and making things difficult for me...
This is all after 2 seperate 40-50 minute walks where he had lots of interesting stuff to look at, different routes and lots of sniffing....and a few extra trips outto the front yard.
So, I decided since its raining and I do not want to repeat my hike in the rain of a few weeks back to go completly back to basics that I learned ages ago when I was training my Headstrong Delilah...
Teulu is now laying, very sedately and quietly in his spot (an LL Bean car Blanket). So far, I have had to put him back into a down 5 times in about 15 minutes. (count that...5).
He just heaved a HUGE sigh of disgruntledness.
And a few very pathetic whimpers. He can be such an actor....
He is giving me a similar look like the one in the photo above.
One would think I was poking him with a poker, rather than having him lay quietly on his blanket after being walked for about 90 minutes this morning! It's making me feel bad, but I am entertained by the operatic noises coming from him.
We'll see if this actually helps tonight with his obedience...
Gosh I hope so.
